Alar Plastry

cosmetic surgery vs plastic surgery

Alar plasty is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that alters the shape of the nostrils. Depending on the objectives of the procedure, the nostrils can be either narrowed or enlarged. The procedure can be performed for either cosmetic or functional reasons. The surgery can often make the nose appear narrower, improving the patient’s appearance.

Procedure

Alar plasty involves removing a small amount of tissue from the base of the nose. The surgeon measures the amount of skin that is being removed and then stitches it together. The procedure results in a slightly shorter nostril, and a more attractive nose. The procedure takes between 45 minutes to one hour.

Recovery time

After undergoing alar plasty, you can expect to feel pain and swelling for several days. After this time, you will be able to do most of your regular activities and begin your regular routine. However, some bruising may remain. Your recovery time will vary depending on your specific case, but in general, you can expect to be back to normal within four to six weeks.

Scars

After an alar plastic surgery, there are some factors that may affect scarring. It can be done quickly under local anaesthesia. The surgeon will create a small incision in the nasal base. The surgeon will then use stitches to reinforce the altered alar base. The wound is then bandaged. The patient may be given pain medications and instructions to prevent infection. He will be required to wear a bandage for a few days after the procedure.

Prices

The cost of alar plasty varies widely, depending on the surgeon and the location where it is performed. Fees range anywhere from $3,000 to $8,500, and these prices typically cover the surgeon's fee, anesthesia, and facility fees. They also cover pre-, post- and after-operative appointments as well as blood work. The patient's medical history will determine the cost.

Optimal nostrils

Alar plasty can restore the nostril's optimal shape by repositioning your ala in a perfect position. This procedure corrects problems such as nasal obstruction, nostril asymmetry, and caudal end deformity. It can also improve the symmetry and width of the nostrils.

Sill excision

To address sill flare or sill width, you can perform alar plasty to exclude the sill. The ideal sill width is one with a horizontal axis and enlarged nostrils. This procedure can also be combined with a reduction in the base of your alar wedge.

Weir excision

After alar plasty, a Weir excision can be performed to reduce the size of the nostrils. This procedure is performed by making an incision on the inside of the nostril, just below the natural lip crease. This incision will wrap around the nostril floor and the inside of the nostril. The wound then closes with sutures. The patient is then given pain medication and instructions on how to avoid infection. The wound should be covered for several days.
